EXPLORATORY —
Instruction is a collaborative process that respects the student’s musical voice. Beyond standard notation, the focus integrates improvisation and analysis to build a well-rounded understanding of the instrument.
TECHNICAL —
Technical mastery is a personal journey rather than a one-size-fits-all requirement. By adapting to unique learning styles, the methodology ensures healthy habits and steady progress without the constraints of a fixed pace.
ADAPTIVE —
Rigid curricula often overlook individual curiosity. This approach remains intentionally flexible, allowing lesson plans to evolve alongside shifting interests and personal creative goals across all genres.
LITERACY —
Music theory is effective when applied directly to the keys. Rather than rote memorization, this focus bridges the gap between the written score and physical performance, fostering an intuitive understanding of musical structure.
[ The Studies ]
PRIVATE LESSONS
Weekly one-on-one piano instruction for students of all levels, taught in Brooklyn. Lessons build technique, repertoire, and musicianship at a pace tailored to each student, with regular performance opportunities including recitals at Steinway Hall.
Lessons will be held weekly at a designated time.
GROUP STUDIES
Group drum and dance workshops rooted in Afro-Brazilian tradition, alongside musicianship intensives building technique, theory, and ensemble skills for piano students. Offered for all levels, held across New York City.
[ About Angela Rey ]
Angela Rey's musical path began at age four, where an initial curiosity for the keys evolved into rigorous classical training under Alla Gladysheva of the San Francisco Conservatory of Music. That foundation soon expanded outward — into classical violin, salsa piano, Latin percussion, and jazz — culminating in a B.A. in Global Jazz Studies from UCLA under Arturo O’Farrill.
Her transition into teaching was driven by a desire to bring that same discipline to others, and over 14 years she has formalized that practice as a Steinway Educational Partner and member of the New York State Music Teachers Association, achieving a 100% ABRSM pass rate including honors across methods ranging from Kodály to Russian pedagogical methods.
